Overwrite Can Change How a Scheduled Entry DE Gets Evaluated
A scheduled DE-entry Journey evaluates records differently after an upstream Query Activity changes its target action.

Evidence tier describes my hands-on relationship with the content. Official sources describe platform contracts/documentation. Production observations should not automatically be treated as official limits.
Salesforce documents that entry behavior depends on the combination of Entry DE update action and Journey contact-evaluation settings; Overwrite resets stored evaluation information used by Journey Builder.
What to check
- Is the upstream Query Activity Overwrite or Add/Update?
- What contact evaluation/re-entry behavior is configured?
- Did this change coincide with a new Journey version or stopped/restarted flow?
Make it cheaper next time
- Treat target-action changes on Journey entry DEs as behavioral changes, not implementation details.
- Include entry-evaluation behavior in Journey deployment tests.
